A guitar amp shapes as much of your tone as the guitar itself. It takes the signal from your pickups and turns it into sound, whether that’s the clean, glassy tone of a valve combo or the high-gain crunch of a modelling amp built for home practice.
We stock amps for every stage of playing, from small practice amps for a bedroom setup through to gig-ready combos, heads and cabinets for stage and studio use. Beginners, weekend players and touring musicians all find something in the range.
Our dedicated Amp Room in our Brighton East store lets you plug in and compare amps side by side, and our staff can talk you through valve, solid state and modelling options based on the music you play. We also ship Australia wide if you’d rather order online.
Combo amps for practice and gigging
Combo amps pack the amplifier and speaker into one unit, making them the simplest option to set up and carry. We range combos from 1-watt amps through to larger stage combos, including the Fender Deluxe Reverb and the Boss Katana series.
Guitar heads and cabinets
For many guitarists and collectors, classic guitar amp heads and cabinets offer the perfect way to own an iconic piece of rock ’n’ roll history. Even for players who no longer gig regularly, legendary valve heads and matching speaker cabinets from brands like Marshall, Fender, Orange and more remain highly desirable for their unmistakable tone, timeless looks and collectability. There’s something special about having the classic head-and-cabinet setup at home — even if it never leaves the music room.
Modelling and digital amps
Modelling amps use digital processing to recreate the sound of classic valve amps alongside a library of built-in effects. They suit players who want tone flexibility without a pedalboard, and options from Boss, Fender and Roland let you plug into headphones for quiet, late-night practice.

Guitar amps FAQ
What’s the difference between a valve and a solid state guitar amp?
Valve (tube) amps use vacuum tubes to shape and boost your tone, and most guitarists prefer how they respond to picking dynamics and overdrive. Solid state and digital modelling amps use transistors or software instead, which keeps them lighter, cheaper to maintain and often more reliable for everyday practice.
How many watts does a guitar amp need for home use?
For practice at home, small combo amps up to 50watt in a solid state amp are perfect, especially with a built-in headphone output. In a tube/valve amp wattage is measured differently and lower wattage tube amps will often out perform the same wattage in a solid state design, therefore up to 25watt tube amps are often preferred for home scenarios.
Can I use a guitar amp for silent practice at home?
Yes. Amps such as the Fender Mustang and Boss Katana series include headphone outputs. Valve amps with often do away with a headphone option however.
Do I need a separate cabinet if I buy an amp head?
Yes, an amp head has no speaker of its own, so it needs to be paired with a compatible cabinet. Our staff can help you match head and cabinet impedance and wattage so your rig is set up correctly before you leave the store.
