What’s the difference between PRS SE, S2 and Core models?

SE guitars are built in th Cor-Tek Indonesia factory to PRS’s specifications at a lower price point. S2 models are built in the US with a simpler construction process than Core guitars, sitting between SE and Core on both price and features. Core (sometimes called USA) models are PRS’s flagship line, with the highest-grade timber, hardware and nitro-cellulose finishes.

Is a PRS a good guitar for a first-time buyer?

The SE range is a reasonable option for a first serious guitar, particularly if you like a slimmer neck than a typical Stratocaster or Les Paul. It’s a step up in price from most beginner packs, so it suits someone who already knows they’ll stick with playing.

Why does PRS use a five-way rotary switch instead of a standard pickup selector?

The rotary switch on many Core and S2 models gives access to more pickup combinations, including split-coil tones, than a standard three or five-way toggle. It takes a little getting used to but opens up more tonal variation from a single guitar.

Do PRS guitars come with a case?
